KUCHING, June 23: Kampung Simpok in Padawan will host an event celebration the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s Independence on July 22.
Advisor and public relations officer of the organising committee Alim Ga Mideh said the celebration, organised by the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) of Kampung Simpok, will be held at Kampung Simpok Community Hall.
According to him, on the eve of the celebration (July 21), there will various programmes held such as a potluck dinner, cultural presentations, community dance, live band performance and others.
“The following day (July 22), the 60th Sarawak Independence Day will be graced by Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin,” he told a press conference held at Dayak Bidayuh National Association headquarters here today.
They will also organise a 722 Cultural Parade around Kampung Simpok, similar to the ‘Niti Daun’ parade held recently in Kuching.
He also said various Dayak movements and individuals have expressed their desire to join the celebration, namely President Bulang Bruce and his Bulang Birieh Dayak, Bulang Lawrance and Bulang Ali of Dayak Bukit Kelingkang (a non-governmental organisation), Madih Lorenzo and Kampung Bowang troupe, and many others.
“We will release 60 pigeons to mark 60 years of Sarawak being in the Federation of Malaysia.
“We shall continue with our iconic ‘1,000 Ngajat’ event too and for the first time ever, we also have Silotuong (Bidayuh traditional music instrument) presentation by the famous Dasri Philip,” he added. — DayakDaily
