Kampung Pinang Jawa with 91 Covid-19 cases among 5 new community clusters in Sarawak

KUCHING, Sept 7: Kampung Pinang Jawa at Jalan Matang here which reported 91 new Covid-19 cases involving the village’s residents, is among the five new community clusters declared in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that the five new community clusters with most of them involving longhouses are the Pinang Jawa Cluster in Kuching, Sungai Setulai Cluster in Sebauh, Bukit Barun Cluster in Tatau, Beruru Cluster in Pakan and Sungai Tangap Cluster in Subis.

The Pinang Jawa Cluster in Kuching recorded the most number of cases among all the new clusters with one case confirmed today.

A total of 92 individuals have been screened, out of which only one is still waiting for lab test results.

All the cases have been referred to either the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) or the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) or the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching for treatment and isolation.

In Sebauh, the Sungai Setulai Cluster which is linked to residents of a longhouse under lockdown has 12 cases with 11 of them confirmed today.

A total of 52 individuals have been screened, out of which 40 are still waiting for lab test results.

In Tatau, the Bukit Barun Cluster which also involved residents of a longhouse under lockdown was triggered after 52 people were infected, out of which 51 cases were confirmed today.

A total of 90 individuals have been screened and 38 are still waiting for lab test results.

Both the positive cases in Sebauh and Tatau have been referred to either Bintulu Hospital or PKRC Bintulu.

In Pakan, the Beruru Cluster which stemmed from villagers of a longhouse near Nanga Kara registered 44 positive cases, of which 43 cases were confirmed today.

A total of 54 individuals have been screened, whereby 10 have tested negative with no lab test results pending. All the positive cases have been referred to either Sarikei Hospital or PKRC Sarikei.

In Subis, the Sungai Tangap Cluster is linked to two longhouses under lockdown with 42 cases confirmed, out of which 10 cases were confirmed today.

A total of 103 individuals have been screened, whereby 59 have tested negative while two are still waiting for lab test results. All the positive cases have been referred to either Miri Hospital or PKRC Miri.

With no clusters declared ended today, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stands at 144, out of which 33 clusters registered an increase in infections with 404 cases contributed to today’s caseload of 3,200. — DayakDaily
