KUCHING, May 14: The Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications aims to merge all four water resources management agencies in Sarawak into one entity within this year.
Its Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said his team is currently in the process of finalising the details for the mergence before it can be brought to Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) for approval.
āAt the moment, we have four agencies namely Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), Kuching Water Board (KWB), Sibu Water Board (SWB) and Laku Management Sdn Bhd (Laku) handling and managing all our water resources.
āWe are still waiting for the final details and study done by the consultants. Once everything is in order, then we will bring it (proposal) to the DUN,ā he told reporters when holding a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Grand Margherita Hotel today.
Julaihi further said the merging of the water resources agencies under one entity will standardise and improve the efficiency of water management throughout the State.
He also stressed that the matter would not be brought in the coming DUN sitting because the ministry has yet to obtain the full report and present it to the Cabinet.
However, he hoped to see the proposal be done before the end of the year. ā DayakDaily
