Dr Jerip: Mambong residents warned to be careful not to fall victim to cybercrimes

KUCHING, May 14: Deputy Minister of Transport I Datuk Dr Jerip Susil today reminded the people to be wary of cybercrimes which appear to be mushrooming in the area.

According to him, people in Mambong area are not spared from becoming the victims, and urged the people to be on their guard.


He said though he did not have the statistics, there were cases of people in the area becoming the victims of cybercrimes.

“Although we do not have the number of cases, there are people (in Mambong) who have fallen victims to cybercrimes because of the smartphones that we have.

“So I must advise and remind the people to stay vigilant and not easily becoming victims of (cybercrimes),” Dr Jerip said today after officiating at a cybercrimes and telecommunication service talks at Padawan sub-district office today.

The talk was presented by Head of Commercial Crime Investigation from Padawan police headquarters ASP Tina Manchu and Malaysia Communication Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Sarawak director (development) Scott Kueh.

Earlier, Dr Jerip said any information received through social media must be verified to prevent unnecessary reaction.

He also said such programmes ought to be continued to update the community leaders on the current issues to be disseminated to their respective areas. — DayakDaily
