Jobless youth pleads not guilty to robbery charge

KUCHING, April 4: An unemployed man claimed trial to armed robbery in the Sessions Court here today.

Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd Yusoff fixed May 3 for pre trial case management to serve relevant documents.


Mohd Idzuan Sukrie Zamharie, 22, from Kampung Segedup pleaded not guilty. He was allowed to be released on cash bail of RM100,000 with two local sureties with proof of income not less than RM3,000.

He was charged with committing armed robbery on Abang Hishammuddin Ghannie with a knuckle duster, and taking cash and cigarettes belonging to a 24-hour convenient store located in Jalan Padungan, on March 17, at about 4am.

Estimated loss is about RM1,000.

Mohd Idzuan is charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which is punishable and to be read together with Section 397 of the Penal Code.

Section 392 of the Penal Code carries a jail term which may extend up to fourteen years, and fine or whipping, upon conviction.

If convicted under Section 397 of the Penal Code, the accused is liable to whipping, in addition to any other punishment to which he may be liable under any other section of the code.
