KUCHING, Sept 12: The Magistrate’s Court here handed down a six-month prison sentence to a jobless man after he pleaded guilty to intentionally causing injury to his elder sister.
Mohammad Adam, 32, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan who ordered the prison sentence to be effective from the date of arrest, which was on July 24.
The accused was charged with deliberately inflicting bodily harm on his 39-year-old sister at their residence at Jalan Astana, Petra Jaya, at about 2.45pm on July 24.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code, which carries a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to the facts of the case, on that day of the incident, the accused suddenly struck his sister in the left eye before strangling her. As a result of the attack, the victim promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest on the same day, at about 9.55pm.
An investigation revealed that the victim had abrasions on her left cheek and left wrist.
Additionally, the accused had a history of previous criminal offenses, including drug abuse and causing harm to others.
The prosecution was led by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
