Jobless man claims trial to charges relating to car rims

KUCHING, May 24: A jobless man today pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to steal car rims and dishonestly retaining a set of rims.

Accused Jonathan Lee Sian Huang was slapped with two charges in two Magistrate’s Courts.


He was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code, read together with Section 511 of the same Code, for attempting to steal two car rims of a Totoya Vios belonging to Limi Salmah Kamarudin at the Kuching International Airport parking lot at about 4.20am on May 11.

He pleaded not guilty to this charge.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar fixed June 13 for pre-trial case management and allowed Lee to be released on bail of RM5,000 with 4 local sureties and to report to the nearest police station fortnightly.

Section 379A of the Penal Code carries imprisonment term of between one year and seven years and shall also be liable to fine if convicted.Ā Section 511 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term not exceeding one half of the longest term provided for the offence.

Lee was also charged for dishonestly retaining a set of black/chrome rim belonging to Benedict John Loh, which was reported stolen on Feb 8 at Kuching International Airport parking lot at about 1.30pm.

He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of up to 5 years or with fine or with both.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM1,500 with 2 local sureties and fixed June 14 for pre-trial case management.
