Jln Sg Tapang murder: Businessman remanded, another suspect’s remand extended

KUCHING, Feb 25: A 38-year-old businessman has been placed under a seven-day remand to assist in investigations into the murder of a 22-year-old man at a gated apartment complex on Jalan Sungai Tapang last yearMagistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali granted the remand order following a request from the police under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The suspect, who is represented by lawyer Roger Chin, is expected to appear in court again on March 4.

Meanwhile, the magistrate also approved a five-day extension of the remand for another suspect, a 27-year-old man, from today until March 2.

The suspect, represented by lawyer Hani Iryani Bonny, had earlier been remanded for six days from February 19 to February 25.

Prior to this, authorities had detained eight men, aged between 22 and 48, to assist with the case. Some have since been released and are now witnesses, while others were freed on bond.

The incident occurred on December 1, 2024, when police received a report at approximately 4.40am about a disturbance at the apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim in his unit with fatal slash wounds.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which deals with murder.
