KUCHING, Dec 2: The Magistrate’s Court here today approved the remand of three local men to assist in the investigation of a murder case at an apartment in Jalan Sungai Tapang yesterday (Dec 1).
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan issued the remand order for the suspects, aged between 22 and 25, under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The first and second suspects were remanded for seven days and are scheduled to appear in court again on December 9.
Meanwhile, the third suspect, represented by lawyer Voon Lee Shan, was remanded for four days and will appear in court again on December 6.
The remand request was filed by Investigating Officer Assistant Mohd Safuan Mohd Nasir. The first and second suspects were not represented by legal counsel during the proceedings.
Earlier, Padawan district police chief Superintendent Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed that police had arrested the three suspects on December 1.
“All suspects are being remanded to assist in the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he stated.
According to Mohd Irwan, the Padawan district police operations room received a report of a fight at an apartment at Jalan Sungai Tapang around 4.40am on December 1.
Upon arrival, officers from the district’s Criminal Investigation Department discovered a 22-year-old local man lying motionless in one of the apartment’s rooms.
The victim’s body bore multiple slash wounds, and medical personnel at the scene confirmed his death.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. — DayakDaily
