KUCHING, Dec 18: The motive behind the murder of a woman, whose decomposing body was discovered in a drain along Jalan Setia Raja last Saturday (Dec 14), was the suspect’s desire to steal her jewellery to fund a trip to watch a football match in Cambodia.

Sarawak Police Commissioner, Dato Mancha Ata, confirmed this during a press conference held after the launch of the Road Safety Advocacy Campaign in conjunction with the Christmas celebrations at the Sarawak police headquarters today.

“The suspect has confessed and provided evidence of his involvement in the murder.

“He even pointed out the location where the victim’s body was dumped,” he said.

The 23-year-old suspect was arrested last Saturday (Dec 14) and is currently being held under a seven-day remand until Dec 22, 2024.

Mancha expressed confidence that the investigation is nearing completion.

Efforts are ongoing to identify the victim’s remains and conduct a post-mortem to support the investigation.

“Yesterday (Dec 17), police revisited the crime scene and found hair and teeth believed to belong to the victim. On the first day of the discovery, the victim’s body was incomplete,” Mancha added.

The decomposing body was discovered by members of the public around 9pm on Dec 14. The case has been linked to the disappearance of a 26-year-old woman who was reported missing on Dec 5. –DayakDaily
