KUCHING, Nov 7: The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak is operating a 24-hour closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring system at Batang Lupar 2 Bridge to monitor traffic conditions, enhance road safety and ensure smoother traffic flow.
In a Facebook post, JKR Sarawak said the CCTV system allows continuous monitoring of traffic conditions and helps enhance safety for motorists using the bridge.
The department also urged road users to drive carefully, obey traffic regulations and help protect public facilities.
The 870-metre Batang Lupar 2 Bridge officially opened to traffic on Oct 31, providing a more direct connection between Sri Aman and Betong.
The bridge has reduced the travelling distance between the two areas from approximately 73km to 28km, cutting travel time from about one hour to 25 minutes.
Featuring a 145.5-metre-high cable-stayed tower, the bridge forms part of the Second Trunk Road network and is expected to improve rural connectivity, reduce business logistics costs and support investment and tourism opportunities in the surrounding areas. — DayakDaily
