Nine members of the Jepak volunteer firefighting team managed to put out an early morning house fire at Kampung Baru Sebuan.

BINTULU, May 20: Nine members of the Jepak volunteer firefighting unit (PBS) managed to put out an early morning house fire, saving its residents from being made homeless.

The fire, which occured in a double-storey house at Kampung Baru Sebuan, completely destroyed the kitchen area.

According to the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, it received an emergency call at 7.11am.

Following the call, 13 firefighters from Bintulu fire station and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) ambulance were despatched to the scene.

A Jepak volunteer firefighter (PBS) shows a fire extinguisher used to douse the fire at the house.

However, upon arrival, they discovered the PBS team who arrived at the scene earlier had already brought the fire under control with the help of villagers using fire extinguishers and pipe water.

The Bintulu firefighters proceeded to do an ‘overhaul’ to ensure the fire was completely doused and the surroundings safe.

The fire damaged the kitchen area.

The fire also damaged a Proton Saga which was parked outside.

No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.
