KUCHING, March 7: A security guard who kicked his wife in the stomach out of jealousy, which caused her injuries, was sentenced to 14 months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here today.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan handed down the sentence to 42-year-old Eddysurimi Hadli after he pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same law.
Section 323 carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. However, under Section 326A, the punishment is doubled when the offence is committed against a spouse.
Eddysurimi was charged with assaulting his 36-year-old wife at a house in Kampung Pasir Pandak on February 3, 2025, at around 1 am.
According to the case facts, a heated argument broke out between the accused and the victim on the day of the incident, which escalated when the accused kicked her in the stomach.
Fearing for her safety, the victim lodged a police report, leading to the accused’s arrest the following day at approximately 11am.
Investigations confirmed that the victim sustained injuries, with a medical report diagnosing soft tissue damage in her abdominal area.
It was revealed that the accused attacked his wife after learning that she intended to file for divorce.
Additionally, the accused claimed he saw messages on her phone that indicated she was communicating with another man. — DayakDaily
