MIRI, Nov 16: Jealousy got the best of a husband at Kampung Lereng Bukit here, who was arrested for an alleged attempt to kill his wife with a machete.
Miri Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said the police arrested the suspect at the family’s rented home and seized the weapon following a report lodged by the 44-year-old wife yesterday.
The incident came to light when the complainant’s 14-year-old daughter told the mother that she saw the suspect coming into the room armed with a machete, while the mother was sleeping at around 5.30pm, he added.
“Prior to the incident, the daughter was with her mother inside the room. Unknown to the father, the daughter saw his act. Upon realising that he was caught in the act, he immediately walked out of the room,” the Miri OCPD said when contacted.
Preliminary investigation revealed that jealousy might have triggered the husband’s action, Lim added.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. — DayakDaily
