KUCHING, May 14: Whether you can paint or not, join Sarawak Artists Society (SAS) president David Chew in an art jam session next Saturday (May 21) from 2pm to 4pm at La Promenade Mall.

The workshop titled ‘Self-Actualisation via Art Jamming’ will allow several individuals to work impromptu and unrehearsed on one piece of artwork together.

Chew said the two-hour session would involve a lot of self-reflection of one’s own emotions, feelings, as well as creativity and imagination.

“The workshop is basically for the public to feel how you go about creating abstract art. Some people would try to take control, plan this and that, but what we want (in abstract art) is spontaneous.

“So, (my advice is to) throw away the ego and urge of trying to take control. Just relax and play with the paint,” he said when met by DayakDaily at La Promenade Mall here today.

Chew also mentioned another workshop which will be held on Sunday (May 22) similarly from 2pm to 4pm, conducted by SAS vice president Sebastian Jong.

The ‘Pouring Art Experience with Sebastian’ session would include a pouring art demo by Jong himself, followed by some hands-on experience among the participants.

Both classes are priced at RM50 each for the painting materials, with limited slots available. Registration can be done via this link.

Meanwhile, the ABSTRACT 2022 art show and exhibition featuring 33 unique abstract pieces by six local Sarawakian artists starts today and will last until June 5, on the ground floor of La Promenade Mall, opposite Zoro.

All art on display will be for sale. As of today, some have already been booked.

The exhibition with the theme ‘Harmony and Sustainability’ showcases diverse artwork not only by Chew and Jong, but also fellow artists namely Sheila Kho, Joanne Lau, Michelle Liou and Jane Ling.
