Jalan Setia Raja roundabout crash claims life of 20yo motorcyclist

KUCHING, Aug 8: A 20-year-old local man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a lorry at the Jalan Setia Raja roundabout here on Friday (Aug 7).

In a statement, Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that the accident was believed to have occurred at 6.20am, with preliminary investigations finding that the lorry was travelling from Muara Tabuan towards the Bau district.

“When it reached the roundabout, the lorry was believed to have been hit on its left side by the motorcycle ridden by the victim as he was entering the roundabout.

“As a result of the collision, the victim sustained serious injuries to his hip before being rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment,” he said.

However, he said that the victim died while receiving treatment at the hospital’s Red Zone at 10.31am that same day.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
