SIBU, Jan 9: The Jalan Oya expansion project costing RM30 million, which was supposed to be completed in December 2023, is expected to be completed in November 2024, said Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang.
“The biggest challenge is to relocate public infrastructure facilities elsewhere to make room for the road expansion. According to the project report, Sarawak Energy has completed the relocation of all cables and poles,” he said.
Yesterday afternoon (Jan 8), Tiang, with Bukit Assek assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek, attended a meeting on the latest report on the road project organised by the Land and Survey Department (JTS) Sibu as the project’s implementing agency.
The meeting was to hear project progress reports from various government departments and units participating in the project plan.
Tiang said the concerned party has also relocated all telecommunications facilities.
He stressed that the installation of new water pipes by the Water Bureau should be carried out after the concrete ditch project is completed.
“It is expected to be completed this year at the end of March. Therefore, this two-way highway expansion project is expected to be completed in November this year,” he said.
At the meeting, he urged the project contractors to repair the road surface and provide temporary alternative routes to facilitate public access and night warning signals to ensure the safety of road users. — DayakDaily
