SIBU, Dec 21: The delay in upgrading Jalan Oya into a dual carriageway has prompted residents here to voice their concerns on social media.
The project, as indicated by the notice board at the site, commenced on Dec 20, 2021, with an initially scheduled completion date of Dec 19, 2023. However, this anticipated completion did not materialise.
A commentator on Facebook pointed fingers at the area’s representative, holding him responsible for failing to ensure the project’s timely completion.
Another social media user expressed little surprise, citing Sibu’s perceived lag in development compared to other towns and cities in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, when questioned about the matter, openly acknowledged the project’s delay and committed to investigate the reasons behind it.
“I will find out the reasons for the project delay from the Land and Survey department as they are the implementing agency.
“It was scheduled to be completed next month (January 2024), but it seems like it is way behind,” he told reporters during the Petros LPG cylinder exchange campaign here today.
About 150 red cylinders were available for members of the public to exchange from their current yellow cylinders.
The next campaign is at Logos Methodist Church (SCAC), Jalan Tong Sang on Saturday (Dec 23).
