SIBU, Aug 9: Despite initial challenges, construction on Jalan Kong Yit Khim is on schedule to be completed by November this year, ahead of the original December 2024 deadline.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas noted that the project faced setbacks due to the deep peat soil in the area, which required adjustments from the contractors. However, their experience allowed them to overcome these obstacles.

“Now we only have a 100-metre stretch left to settle,” Uggah said during a site inspection today. He expressed confidence that the contractor will meet the November 2024 deadline.

The road project, with a contract sum of RM104.4 million, is expected to significantly reduce travel time by 20 to 30 minutes between Sibujaya township and Sibu town.

Also present during the inspection were Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo and Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) director Dr Cassidy Morris. ā€” DayakDaily
