Italy backs S’wak’s green energy vision with collaboration, financial support

KUCHING, Dec 2: Italy is committed to supporting Sarawak’s green energy initiatives, particularly in energy transition and decarbonisation efforts.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, the Italian ambassador to Malaysia, Massimo Rustico, described Sarawak as a significant region in Malaysia due to its pivotal role in energy transition and development projects.

“The Italian government offers its full support to this project, which is in line with the EU’s efforts to promote decarbonisation at the global level,” said Rustico during a courtesy call to the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Rustico emphasised Italy’s interest in collaborating with Sarawak in energy transition, recognising the State’s position as a major powerhouse.

Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between Sarawak and a leading global technology company that focuses on energy transition and advanced manufacturing.

“We (Italy) are also ready to provide the necessary financial support since this (collaboration) is in line with the EU’s global goals,” Rustico added.

The ambassador expressed confidence in Sarawak’s potential to become a green energy hub and highlighted Italy’s enthusiasm to play a substantial role in realising the vision. — DayakDaily
