KUCHING, Sept 1: Sarawak is set to host the 38th International Conference on Microelectronics (ICM 2026) this December at the Borneo Cultures Museum, bringing the prestigious event back to Malaysia after over three decades.

According to a report by TVS, Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said hosting ICM 2026 would bring global knowledge and expertise in microelectronics directly to Sarawak.

“Hosting ICM 2026 is an opportunity to bring knowledge, expertise, and discussions on microelectronics from around the world directly to Sarawak.

“By bringing this international conference to Sarawak, we connect professionals and young talents directly with global expertise, creating opportunities to learn, collaborate, and turn knowledge into real opportunities for Sarawak,” he said during a press conference on ICM 2026 at his office in the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) building here today.

According to Sagah, the conference is expected to generate an economic impact of about RM2.5 million.

He said ICM 2026 would also contribute to talent development, new knowledge creation, international collaboration, and research in Sarawak’s electronics and technology sectors.

“To achieve this goal, we need to continue investing in our people and developing industries that can create higher-value opportunities for Sarawakians. ICM 2026 is an important step towards that,” he said.

The four-day conference will take place from Dec 7 to 10, with more than 300 delegates, including researchers, engineers, academics, and international microelectronics industry players, expected to attend.

The conference is supported by the MEITD, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) Semiconductor Sdn Bhd, and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak.

The Academy of Sciences Malaysia will serve as the science and technology partner.
