KUCHING, Sept 1: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Youth has challenged Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol to provide evidence for his claim that the incident involving the REDEEMS Centre was caused by “sabotage”.
Mordi raised the allegation during a recent podcast interview, where he also discussed claims that Mas Gading community leaders had been warned against seeking project allocations from his service centre, as well as the prolonged delay in completing the Selampit Bridge.
In a Facebook post today, PDP Youth said any allegation of political interference should be backed by evidence, including details of who allegedly issued the instruction and under what authority.
“If deliberate political interference genuinely occurred, then the evidence should be brought forward.
“The public deserves to know who issued the instruction, under what authority it was issued and what actually happened,” it said.
The youth wing also challenged Mordi to identify specific cases if community leaders had been threatened or intimidated for approaching his service centre.
PDP Deputy President and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep had previously clarified that community leaders, Ketua Masyarakat and Ketua Kaum (KMKK) in Tasik Biru were never prohibited from seeking allocations from Mordi.
On the Selampit Bridge, the youth wing said the focus should be on completing the bridge and access road, given how long residents had been waiting.
“The project had faced land, weather, redesign and administrative issues, but residents needed usable infrastructure rather than political arguments over responsibility,” it said.
It also called on Mordi, who serves as the Federal Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, to use his position to facilitate cooperation between the Federal and Sarawak governments on issues affecting Mas Gading.
“Where federal intervention is required, use that position. Where Sarawak government cooperation is necessary, engage the State government. Where agencies need to sit together, bring them together,” it said.
While the youth wing said it remained prepared to debate Democratic Action Party (DAP) on policies and performance, it urged elected representatives to work together when constituency development was at stake.
It pointed to Mordi’s own position during the interview that politicians could compete during elections but should work together afterwards, saying the same principle should now be applied to constituency development. — DayakDaily
