KUCHING, Aug 12: Sarawak’s initiative in developing various resources to face climate change continues to receive attention from many parties.
In a TVS news report today, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Country Manager for Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei, Katia Daude Goncalves, has expressed the company’s willingness to support developing areas for sustainable investment.
“In Sarawak, the State has an excellent green grid and plans to expand it through investment. So we want to see if there is a way for us to support this wish.
“Our courtesy visit to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is for us to introduce ourselves and inform him that we are open to being involved (in Sarawak initiatives).
“Through this courtesy visit, we reiterate our interest and support for the project we have identified before, and it is also important for him (the Premier) because we are interested in continuing it (the project),” she said after paying a courtesy visit to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
She added that her side is actively looking for investments in areas geared towards facing the challenges of climate change, including green energy, infrastructure, and high-value manufacturing industries.
“Malaysia has high skills and capabilities in these fields. We know that this is part of the government’s plan to invest more in these areas, and we are trying to align our focus with the main areas that the government is paying attention to,” she added.
She said that IFC had previously invested in several projects throughout the country, including the plastic recycling project in Malaysia and the Data Center Project in Johor Bahru.
