KUCHING, Jan 27: Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) acknowledges that Sarawak is more advanced in research and training programmes including cooperation with foreign parties.
Therefore, IKIM deputy chairman Dato Wan Mohamad Dato Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the institute wishes to establish cooperation in carrying out programmes relating to research, seminars and conferences.
“For example, (we can) establish cooperation in the field of research that can be implemented together with agencies under the Sarawak government including training programmes.
“We are very excited because we found out that in this sort of programmes, the Sarawak government is far ahead including cooperation with foreign parties.
“So we also want to offer cooperation including the implementation of intellectual discourse programmes, international seminars and the likes,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) after paying a courtesy visit to Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
Wan Mohamad further said IKIM sees Sarawak as a model to intensify the agenda of fostering harmony between Malaysians who have various religious, racial, cultural and other backgrounds.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Utility Sarawak-cum-Minister overseeing Islamic Affairs Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) president Datuk Misnu Taha and IKIM director-general Associate Professor Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil. — DayakDaily
