KUCHING, March 31: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) will consider a request to extend the deadline for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) applications as tax season approaches.

The request was proposed by the special assistant to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong Feng Nian, as IRB officers are scrambling from 6am to 12am daily to process STR applications.

In his proposal, he requested that the deadline be extended to enable the public to submit their applications over the weekend.

He said the officers understand the urgency and need to clear all these applications so that assistance can be disbursed to deserving applicants promptly.

“Yesterday alone, there were approximately 10,000 applications in Kuching. The urgency is compounded by the fact that April will be the month when Malaysians will have to file their personal income tax returns.

“This means that LHDN will have to complete this STR exercise by today so that they can move on to this new task in April,” he said in a statement today.

However, he also strongly urged those who have yet to submit their STR forms to do so online to avoid the long queue.

Earlier, he submitted another 102 STR application forms on behalf of people to IRB at Wisma Hasil today. — DayakDaily
