SIBU, March 14: A female social media influencer was fleeced of RM16,799 in an online job scam.
In a statement, Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the police received a report on March 12 from the 28-year-old victim claiming that she was cheated of her money.
He said the woman was browsing Facebook when she came across a vacancy for a live-host.
“The job promised a commission of RM1,000 by being a live-host for a minimum of 30 hours a week,” he said.
As she was interested in the offer, the woman contacted the advertiser and was asked to register her personal and banking details.
“The victim had also submitted her bank account identification and password to pay for the registration charges,” Zulkipli said.
Subsequently, the woman received an SMS on her phone from her bank saying that RM16,799 had been transferred from her account.
Realising she had been scammed, the woman filed a police report. — DayakDaily
