Indonesian man, two local women could face death sentence for suspected drug offence

MIRI, March 3: An Indonesian man and two local women could face the death penalty after they were found with drugs during a police raid this afternoon.

According to Miri Police Chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the trio was picked up from inside a room of a homestay at Jalan Lee Tak here around 12pm.

He said, the suspects are aged 18, 21 and 34 are currently detained at Miri Central police station (CPS) for questioning.

During the raid, police discoverd and seized drugs known as methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) or more commonly known as ecstacy in powder form and ketamin ā€” weighing 113.83 grammes in total ā€” and 10 ecstacy pills worth RM2,300.

Some of the seized drugs were concealed inside two juice packets.

It is believed the suspects’ modus operandi was to sell drugs at entertainment outlets in the city.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were purchased by the male suspect via a social media app.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1957 which carries a death sentence upon conviction. ā€” DayakDaily
