Indian community will always be respected by all races in Sarawak—Deputy Premier

KUCHING, Nov 8: In welcoming Deepavali which falls on Nov 12, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian reminds the Indian community here that despite being a minority race, they will always get respect from all the races in Sarawak.

Dr Sim wanted the Indian community to know that they should and can live together here in unity and enjoy their festival with all others in the State.

“By accepting you as the community here is the opportunity to show the rest of the world that, even though you are a neat and small community, we want to fit you in our place. That is the spirit of Sarawak,” he said.

Dr Sim made these remarks after officiating at the lighting-up ceremony in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration at the White Cat statue, Jalan Padungan.

He applauded Kuching City South Council (MBKS) for dressing the White Cat, an icon landmark in Kuching City, with traditional Indian attire.

“The iconic White Cat is not just a symbol of unity. It’s beautiful decoration with the Indian costume symbolises our respect for one another that we all here can participate in everybody’s celeberation,” he said.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) Chairman Tan Kai, MBKS Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili and Cr Shankar Ram Asnani were also among those present. — DayakDaily
