KUCHING, Aug 30: A group of some 20 delegates from India, Australia, and Malaysia, who participated in the Sarawak Agrotourism Conference and Expo 2023, had the opportunity for a site visit to Borneo Empurau Farm And Resort Sdn Bhd in Tarat, Serian today.
Derrisen Sdn Bhd project consultant Nor Azmi Sulong mentioned that the site visit was organised to provide a firsthand experience for the delegates, allowing them to visualise the agro-tourism offerings available in Sarawak.
Nor Azmi’s intention was for the delegates to promote the concept of agro-tourism back in their home countries and to a global audience, thus spreading the message of Sarawak’s agro-tourism potential.
“We extend our gratitude to the owner of the farm and resort for granting the delegates this valuable opportunity to gain insights into what they have to offer,” he shared with DayakDaily at the venue.
Nor Azmi further explained that the owner’s investment in establishing such a farm and resort has elevated agro-tourism to a new level within the industry, not only as a form of leisure but also as an educational platform on food consumption.
He emphasised their contentment in arranging this excursion, aiming to reintroduce agro-tourism to Sarawak and to continually educate the public about this industry.
Nor Azmi expressed optimism about the considerable opportunities that Sarawak can harness from an agricultural perspective, with agro-tourism as a crucial component of its tourism offerings.
“Borneo Empurau Farm and Resorts Sdn Bhd, sprawling across 65 acres of land, encompasses a farm, a resort, aquatic and agro-produce, modern facilities, a mini zoo, and a theme park, among others. Established in 2015 and situated about 51 kilometers along the Kuching-Serian road, it is expected to achieve full operational status by 2024,” he added.
The owner, Dato Yong Fook Heng, and the farm’s chief executive officer, Jerry Yong, were also present during the visit. — DayakDaily
