Inaugural Samalaju Sports Carnival unites SIP participants

BINTULU, Dec 10: The inaugural Samalaju Sports Carnival 2017 jointly organised by Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) and Press Metal Berhad (Press Metal) was held here from Dec 7 to 10.

According to a press release, the event was launched by Minister in The Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip.

Also present were Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi, Press Metal group chief executive officer Tan Sri Datuk Paul Koon Poh Keong, Sarawak Energy’s acting vice-president for health, safety, security and environment Marconi Madai, and his co-chairperson for the sports carnival Press Metal vice-chairman Koon Poh Ming.

The sports carnival was organised to promote the spirit of competitiveness and greater interaction amongst the participants from Sarawak Energy and Samalaju Industrial Park. Other than Sarawak Energy and Press Metal, other organisations who took part in the games carnival included Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), Sakura Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd, OCIM, OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Samalaju Industrial Port and Pertama Ferroalloys (Bintulu) Sdn Bhd.

“This sports carnival promotes a healthy lifestyle while strengthening the camaraderie between employees of Sarawak Energy and our counterparts in Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP),” said Marconi.

More than 500 sportsmen and sportswomen participated in the games carnival which featured football, badminton, volleyball, netball, futsal and table tennis tournaments. — DayakDaily
