Inaugural Rabies in Borneo Conference 2022 to be held from Sept 27-28

Rabies in Borneo Conference 2022 (RIB2022)

KUCHING, July 9: The inaugural Rabies in Borneo Conference 2022 (RIB2022) is set to take place from Sept 27-28.

Aimed to assemble a group of international and local experts and to be the authoritative voice in the prevention and control of rabies in the community and Borneo, the two-day event will be held at Imperial Hotel in Kuching.

According to the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak on its social media page, the programme will unpack two approaches to rabies prevention; the scientific (medical and veterinary) method and community participation.

“Fashioned after the Rabies in the Americas (RITA) and Rabies in West Africa (RIWA), DVSS is aiming for Sarawak to be rabies-free by 2025, and RIB is one of the steps towards the goal.

“It will also engage community involvement in rabies eradication efforts by creating awareness of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the authorities’ efforts on stray management, increasing awareness of veterinary care, vaccination and control, and networking opportunities to discuss the challenges and strategies to be met,” its statement said.
