Illegally felled timber logs worth RM93,750 seized by marine police

The logs had no stamp marks from the Sarawak Forest Department.

SIBU, May 19: Region 5 Marine Police scored a major seizure of illegal timber logs worth RM93,750 at the Nanman River near here yesterday.

The seizure was made under the Forestry Ordinance 2015.

In a statement, the authorities said they had acted on information regarding public complaints related to raft timber activities, with a team of four policemen assigned to patrol the banks of the Nanman River.


They found a pile of timber that had been tied into a raft worth a total of RM 93,750.

“During the inspection, there was nobody present at the place or location of the discovery of the pile of timber,” he said.

The logs had no stamp marks from the Sarawak Forest Department and were believed to have been obtained illegally.

A police report was lodged and the case was handed over and referred to the Sibu Division Forest Department for further investigation and action. — DayakDaily
