KUCHING, Feb 5: A 30-year-old man was arrested by the police in Bau on suspicion of running as a “top-up” agent for illegal online gambling, yesterday.
Bau district police (IPD Bau) chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement said the suspect was arrested by a team of Crimes Investigation Department (CID) personnel from IPD Bau during “Op Dadu”, at about 2.20 pm.
“The suspect is believed to have been operating as a “top-up” agent for illegal online gambling activities at the food court,” he said.
Poge noted, police also seized a unit of mobile phone, together with an undisclosed amount of cash, and the suspect has no previous criminal record.
“The case is being investigated under Section 4 (1)(c) of Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 which carries a maximum punishment of RM50,000 fine and three years of imprisonment upon conviction,” he added. -DayakDaily
