DARO, Aug 14: Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi has warned against ‘musuh dalam selimut’ (wolves in sheep’s clothing) who will rob Sarawak of its unity in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).

He said while some people would consider unity a trivial matter, he stressed that the existing unity was not achieved within a year or two but was built by the previous leaders.

“During elections, we will always face the Opposition parties head-on, but these are the enemies that we can see, and we will be able to face them at any time.

“The most dangerous enemies are ‘musuh dalam selimut’ because they are among us, but we cannot identify them.

“So for these people, I want to advise them not to ‘play with fire’, or they might burn themselves,” he said when speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Daro Festival broadcast through the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) Facebook livestream today.

He also shared that it was the first time for Igan to become an Opposition during the first 22 months of his tenure after being elected as an MP under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration.

“It was very difficult and upsetting. (I) talk in the Dewan Rakyat as if I am talking to the wall.

“Many development projects in Sarawak, including Igan, such as Batang Igan Bridge, were cancelled by the PH federal government at the time.

“That is why I stress unity is very important in facing the general election, which can be called at any time,” he added.

He also mentioned that the Malaysian Family concept, introduced by the current Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government that aims to promote unity and inclusivity among the people, ought to be nurtured within the context of the Igan constituency. — DayakDaily
