KUCHING, April 7: The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) has been urged to review the conditions for flood victims to receive the RM1,000 disaster aid.

In a Facebook post, Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the suggestion was based on feedback he received from flood victims at Rumah Gawan and Rumah Juin, Tatai Sempaong, Baleh, during a recent visit to his constituency.

“The RM1,000 aid by NADMA is only for flood victims who evacuated to temporary relief centres (PPS). For those who did not evacuate, I was informed that they were ineligible for the aid,” he said.

Nanta, who is also the federal Minister of Works, cited a lack of transportation and concerns about leaving their belongings behind as the main reasons the flood victims did not evacuate.

“I will forward this matter to the relevant authorities (NADMA). If they (victims) are not eligible for the RM1,000 aid, even RM500 would greatly help ease their burdens,” he said. — DayakDaily
