KUCHING, April 22: The first of the ‘Chat with ROSE’ series of public forums on the topic ‘Youth and employment in Sarawak: Opportunities or challenge’ will be held at Summer Mall in Samarahan from 7.30 to 9.30pm this April 27.
The panellists are Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang and unionist/activist Andrew Lo.
Idris is also information chief of Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) and is a practising lawyer. Lo is the Malaysian Trade Unions Congress (MTUC) Sarawak’s secretary.
The forum will share on and discuss employment opportunities or the lack of it in Sarawak, the challenges and issues that this poses to the youths and other job-seekers and what needs to be done by respective parties and stakeholders to close the gaps.
“We believe that both panellists can contribute towards the discourse for the benefit of those who come as well as the wider audience,” said Rise of Sarawak Efforts (ROSE) in a statement today.
ROSE called on students and youths, whether working or not, and other members of the public to attend the forum.
“The objectives of our Chat forums are to enable free and open discourse on issues that affect Sarawakians, which might otherwise remain within the realm of policy-makers.
“By having such forums, we are hopeful that these events will contribute towards the sharing of valuable information, besides giving an opportunity for engagement by all parties and stakeholders.
“It will also cement our shared values as ‘Anak Sarawak’ for the purposes of together building a better Sarawak,” it said.
