KUCHING, Oct 22: The inclusion of the National Bioeconomy Showcase as part of the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2025 marks a defining milestone in positioning Malaysia’s bioeconomy at the forefront of the nation’s digital transformation,
IDECS organising committee chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki emphasised that the collaboration underscores Sarawak’s growing role as a regional hub where innovation, sustainability, and technology-driven growth converge.
“For over seven years, IDECS has been a driving force in Sarawak’s digital transformation journey, from harnessing data to fuel economic growth to shaping forward-looking strategies that balance innovation with sustainability,” he said when speaking at the opening ceremony of IDECS 2025, which was officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
He highlighted this year’s IDECS theme, “AI and Green Evolution: Growth, Challenges, Community Resilience,” encapsulates the twin forces shaping the modern world, the rise of artificial intelligence and the global shift toward sustainability.
“These elements remind us that true progress must strike a balance between innovation and responsibility, ensuring that technological advancement goes hand in hand with inclusivity, ethics, and environmental stewardship,” he said.
Abu Bakar noted that IDECS 2025 features a rich line-up of thematic sessions, designed to reflect the core pillars of Sarawak’s ongoing transformation.
Among the highlights include The Future, which explores cutting-edge technologies and sustainable innovation; Future Cities, focusing on workforce transformation and the role of AI in building livable, low-carbon urban environments; and She-Techs, an empowering platform for women and underrepresented groups in technology.
Other key segments include Start-up Village, a dynamic space where entrepreneurs and innovators showcase scalable tech solutions to address real-world sustainability challenges, and MTDC Road2Growth 2025, a collaborative programme that enables Sarawakian entrepreneurs to access technology, funding, and strategic partnerships.
“Each of these tracks embodies our belief that digital and green progress must advance together, transforming innovation into tangible impact that benefits our people and communities,” he remarked.
