KUCHING, Aug 8: A new cutting-edge campus for i-CATS University College is poised to be developed on a 200-acre land in Trombol near Matang here which will become the hub for a wide range of academic disciplines under its roof.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg disclosed that the Sarawak government has identified the land and is currently in the administrative phase of acquisition.
“We need to carry out a land survey first as well as the building designs, especially for engineering faculty, to cater for new innovative courses.
“This will provide a conducive learning environment for students furnished with advanced technology and facilities,” he told reporters after the 25th Sarawak Skills and i-CATS University College Convocation ceremony held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Abang Johari added that the academic structures will also include student accommodations as the university will be open to both students from within and outside Sarawak.
Additionally, he emphasised that i-CATS is also planning to introduce new engineering courses focusing on hydrogen and electric vehicle maintenance.
“The university is currently studying to formulate the right methodologies and syllabus. Perhaps, they will need to refer to German which offers courses in this field,” he said.
In light of Sarawak’s determined push towards renewable energy, encompassing hydrogen and electric sources, Abang Johari emphasised the imperative of maintaining elevated standards.
“The evolving landscape demands skilled and professional personnel well-versed in the intricacies of sustaining emerging industries reliant on renewable energy sources like electricity, solar power, and hydrogen,” he added. ā DayakDaily
