BETONG, Aug 27: A couple riding on a motorcycle was killed in a road accident along Jalan Beladin–Sepinang yesterday.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement said the victims, identified as Sahari Rasid, 68, and his wife Salbiah Ahmad, 48, died on the spot after the motorcycle they were riding on collided head-on with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle at about 2pm.
“Initial investigations revealed that the 4WD driver was travelling near Sg. Pulasan, Jalan Beladin-Sepinang heading to Meludam from Simpang Beladin ferry junction when the motorcycle came from the opposite direction.
The motorcycle went out of control and crashed head-on with the 4WD,” Alexson disclosed.
The couple was pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.—DayakDaily
