KUCHING, July 29: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin brought cheers to Sarawak Bersatu today after assuring the members that party central leadership supports the setting up of Sarawak PPBM.

Sarawak Bersatu Interim Secretary Jaziri Alkaf Suffian said Muhyiddin who is Home Affairs Minister had given the assurance that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) will approve six more Sarawak Bersatu divisions the latest within next month.

“At the moment RoS has approved the first six divisions – Santubong, Stampin, Sri Aman, Saratok, Kota Samarahan and Bintulu. Another six is not in the process of approval in RoS.

“After that we will submit six more to the RoS. All in all, everything is to be done in three phases,” Jaziri told reporters after a meeting chaired by Muhyiddin at a local hotel here this morning.

Jaziri further disclosed that after setting up of at least 18 divisions, Sarawak Bersatu is expected to be formally established.  The target number of divisions for Sarawak Bersatu is 31, based on the number of parliamentary seats in Sarawak.

Jaziri said Sarawak is a very unique state in terms of political scenario, and therefore there was no need to rush to form all 31 divisions.

“We take it step by step, slowly. So we do it strategically and properly through the support of the people on the ground.

“Today for the first time we have a closed door meeting with our president Muhyiddin, and what transpired from this meeting was that there is a big support and big commitment from party central for the setting up of Sarawak Bersatu because there is a need and there is support from the ground.

“Based on what the ground had said, the party’s central leadership has acknowledged us as said by Tan Sri Muhyiddin earlier (in the meeting), and wants to proceed with setting up Sarawak Bersatu.

“Sarawak Bersatu will have a big role to play for the central Bersatu,” Jaziri assured. — DayakDaily
