KUCHING, Feb 15: The upcoming HSL Samarahan Marathon 2025 is the best way to promote healthy living and in the long run, the event could boost the local tourism in Kota Samarahan, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos says.
In a statement today, he highlighted that Sarawakians have shown a growing enthusiasm for marathons, with last year’s event attracting 2,800 runners from across the world.
This surge in participation reflects a broader trend of people becoming more health-conscious while seeking fun, community-driven activities.
He further enthused that in the long run, the event is poised to become a key driver of local tourism.
“Samarahan Marathon will help in putting Samarahan on the world map or at least the Malaysian map. In the long-run this will definitely promote local tourism,” Minos shared.
MPKS will also hold the annual Samarahan Food and Cultural Festival alongside the marathon.
“A committee is now empanelled to organise the event. The HSL Samarahan Marathon 2025 and the Samarahan Food and Cultural Festival will be two big events that will really make Samarahan worth noting and visiting,” he added.
The upcoming HSL Samarahan Marathon 2025, jointly organised by MPKS and HSL, will be held on June 14 to 15.
The event is expected to draw at least 3,000 participants across various categories, with marathoners from Kenya, China, South Korea, Singapore, Brunei, other states in Malaysia and Sarawak itself set to compete.
Key supporters of the event include UNIMAS and UITM which will provide 300 volunteers in organising the marathon, aided by the police, Public Works Department (JKR), medical teams, City Joggers Club, Rela and other agencies.
The fun runs (6km and 3km) will take place on June 14, while the competitive runs (42km, 21km, and 10km) with cash prizes will kick off on June 15, from 1am to 5.30am. Registration fees range from RM60 to RM139.
