KUCHING, Dec 23: Despite the La Promenade Christmas Street’s lights being knocked out by cable theft, Hock Seng Lee (HSL) said its Christmas Day (Dec 25) events will proceed as scheduled as restoration efforts continue.
“We’re working round-the-clock to repair the damage. Scheduled events on Christmas Day, like snowfall and a free night run, will proceed. Separately, the security team is lodging a police report,” said Clinton Jawa Richardly, HSL Tower’s senior mechanical and engineering officer, in a press release issued today.
At around midnight on Dec 22, the mall’s security guards noticed a power outage. On checking this morning, the building team confirmed that the main electrical cables powering the Christmas Street lights had been cut and stolen.
“While repairs are underway, the lights will remain off for safety reasons, likely for two nights. We aim to have the full Christmas Street décor back on by Dec 25.
“The scheduled CJC Christmas Night Run, which is free and open to all, at 6.45pm on Christmas Day (Thursday), will proceed as usual,” Clinton added.
The lights are part of HSK’s annual La Promenade Christmas Street that has become one of the area’s most-loved year-end traditions. — DayakDaily
