KUCHING, July 13: A housewife claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today for intentionally causing injury to her husband by splashing him with hot coffee, resulting in scalding burns at their residence in Matang last May.
Sharfiza Mushar, 41, a housewife, pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Judge Musli Abdul Hamid.
According to the charge, she deliberately injured her 47-year-old husband by pouring hot coffee on him at approximately 10am on May 14 at their residence in Matang.
The accused is charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, she may face imprisonment for up to ten years or a fine or caning, or any two of the punishments.
During the hearing, the prosecution, represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Norshafatihah Nor Azmi, proposed a bail of RM5,000 along with a local surety.
However, Musli allowed the accused to be released on bail with a sum of RM5,000 and an additional RM2,000 as a deposit, with the condition of a local guarantor.
The court set the next mention date for case management on Aug 15. — DayakDaily
