Houses swept away as severe floods hit Bintulu, residents share shocking footage on Facebook

BINTULU, Jan 29: Several houses have been reportedly swept away by devastating floods in Bintulu today, as heavy rains and rising water levels continue to wreak havoc across the division.

Shocking videos and images circulating on Facebook depict homes being submerged, with some structures collapsing under the force of the floodwaters.

A Facebook user, Affi Johari, shared a video showing rooftops and large debris being carried away by strong currents.

He wrote, “The flood situation in Sarawak is at a dangerous level. Several areas across multiple districts in Sarawak have been inundated.

“A video recording this morning shows two houses being swept away by floodwaters in the Sebiew/Kemunting area of Bintulu.”

In another post, he shared a video capturing a crocodile sighting in the same flooded area, raising further concerns about the dangers posed by the disaster.

Other posts from him included images and videos of vehicles and homes submerged in floodwaters in various parts of Bintulu.

Meanwhile, another user, Zara Adriana, uploaded a video showing a boat capsizing amid the disaster, with passengers struggling in the raging floodwaters. She claimed that the incident took place in Bukit Orang, Bintulu.

“Oh God, please help them, whoever they are. The currents are too strong. We need help from those experienced in handling boats and strong currents,” she wrote.
