KUCHING, June 15: Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd (HSSB), a well-established aviation company owned by the Sarawak government, has reached a significant milestone by obtaining a five-year contract from Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) to provide offshore helicopter services (OHS) for the latter’s Miri operations starting from April 1, 2023.
It is an integrated contract involving six Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs), including Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Shell Berhad, SapuraOMV Upstream (Sarawak) Inc, Mubadala Energy (SK320) Ltd, JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Ltd, and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), according to a HSSB press handout.
Under the contract, HSSB will deploy three helicopters (Airbus H175 type) for the OHS operation in Miri.
“I am delighted to announce that Hornbill Skyways has achieved a remarkable feat by being the first Sarawak-owned company to be awarded this contract.
“This milestone is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment of Sarawak’s team, who have consistently demonstrated their professionalism and excellence in the field of aviation,” Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said before witnessing the signing of a contract between HSSB and Petronas and its associated PACs, as well as the signing of a technical services agreement between HSSB and HAS International Sdn Bhd (HAS), which took place today at a hotel here.
He went on to say that the Airbus H175 is one of the most advanced helicopter models for offshore operations.
“Hornbill Skyways and HAS International take great pride in being the first in Asia to operate this super medium twin-engine helicopter for offshore operations.
“The H175 represents a significant leap forward in terms of technology, safety, and efficiency, providing enhanced capabilities and ensuring a higher standard of service for our valued partners,” the Premier added.
Among others present at the event were Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Transport Sarawak (MOTS) deputy minister (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, HSSB chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, and HSSB chief executive officer (CEO) Captain Miron Kumer Ganguly. — DayakDaily
