TEBEDU, March 12: Fire victims from Kampung Krusen Siu are set to receive a new longhouse by the end of this year, bringing hope to eight affected families after last year’s tragedy.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada revealed that RM560,000 has been allocated through the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to the Serian Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) to fund the reconstruction.

This funding will be used to build a new longhouse, replacing the one lost in the fire.

Speaking at a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony today, Dr Simon announced that RM59,000 from the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) has been allocated for site preparation.

Work on clearing and preparing the site is expected to begin this week and should be completed within one to two months, depending on weather conditions.

“The priority now is to clear the old longhouse site before proceeding with the tender process for construction.

“Once a contractor is selected, work on the new longhouse will begin,” he said.

Dr Simon emphasised the urgency of the project to ensure the affected families can move into their new homes by year-end.

“We hope this initiative will help restore their lives and provide them with a safe and comfortable place to call home,” he added. — DayakDaily
