KUCHING, Sept 11: It was a historic moment for residents of Rumah (Rh) Raymond Plen at Sungai Gelam, Sebauh, when Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah stop for a visit today.
According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the residents felt like it was a dream that the royal guests made their longhouse, which is located about an hour’s drive from Bintulu town, as one of the stopover locations.
When met by reporters at his longhouse, Tuai Rumah Raymond said he is proud to see the response of the residents of his longhouse and the surrounding residents to welcome His Majesty and the Queen.
“We feel proud that not only was the ceremony held in a lively manner, but we also feel lucky to have been chosen as the location for His Majesty’s two visits,” he said.
Other residents also expressed the same sentiment, saying that they have made preparations for the royal guests to witness the uniqueness of the lifestyle of the Iban longhouse, its crafts, and the process of making it.
During the stopover, the Queen also participated in the cooking activities held in the compound of the 53-door longhouse. — DayakDaily
