KUCHING, Aug 25: The Habitat for Indigenous and Urban Programme (Hidup) provided food aid to several families under lockdown or quarantine at Kampung Sri Arjuna near Padawan, Taman Muhibbah (Flat), Kampung Sungai Pendam and Taman Samarindah at Kota Samarahan last weekend.

Hidup chairman George Young Si Ricord Junior said he and his team took the initiative to distribute the food aid to the residents in those areas.

He explained that the purpose of the food aid distribution is to alleviate some of the burden on families involved with quarantine orders in an effort to combat the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic.

“Hidup has received many appeals from groups and families who were in need of such assistance.

“Hidup felt the tremendous support from the community and we could only respond to their hopes and requests as swiftly as possible to meet the needs of these communities.

“With the slogan, No Community Left Behind, Hidup will always work for the good of the Stakan community,” George said.

For Kampung Sri Arjuna, Hidup donated food aid and baby milk powder to a few families with more than 20 people which consisted of the elderly, infants and children.

George said they were ordered to be quarantined at home for two weeks and his team responded quickly after receiving the appeal and grievances of the family.

Apart from Kpg Sri Arjuna, George and his team also sent food aid to the residents of Taman Muhibbah (Flat) and Kpg Sungai Pendam with family members who were confirmed  Covid-19 positive.

They also sent food aid to Taman Samarindah with the housing area under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for the past two weeks.

George said there are about 2,000 families involved in the EMCO in Taman Samarindah, Kota Samarahan from August 17 to 30. — DayakDaily
