LAWAS, Aug 25: The search for a missing six-year-old boy who fell into a river in Kampung Siang Siang Laut here was continued early this morning.

According to Lawas police chief DSP Sila Kadong when contacted, police personnel together with Lawas Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) members were called to Kampung Siang Siang on Tuesday night (Aug 24) after the boy was reported to have fallen into the river while bathing at the village jetty around 7pm with his elder sister and two of his cousins.

“The boy was reported to have plunged into the river before he was swept away by the strong current,” said Sila.

The incident occurred moments after the boy’s mother had finished bathing at the jetty and was on her way back to their home.

“She heard her daughter’s loud screams, mentioning about her son falling into the river and being submerged before being swept away by the strong current,” Sila said.

Residents of Kampung Siang Siang Laut and the boy’s family immediately mounted a search for him around the river that night, but to no avail.

“That night, they search within 1km radius from the jetty,” Sila said.

As of press time, the Search and Rescue operation (SAR) is ongoing. — DayakDaily
