KUCHING, Sept 14: Cloudy weather is expected to persist in Sarawak with rain forecasted in most rural areas throughout the week from Sept 14 to 20.
According to information from the Malaysian Meteorology Department’s website, downpours are expected for six out of seven days of the week while temperatures are projected to remain between 24 °C and 33 °C.
There have been reports of recent floods in certain locations including Kapit, Sibu and Miri.
Likewise, information from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak revealed certain rivers in Sibu and Kapit divisions have surpassed dangerous water levels.
Recently, water levels at Salim River in Sibu, Kapit New Headworks at the Rajang Basin and a river in Kapit town have overflowed river banks.
DID noted that certain areas in Sibu especially Nanga Machan, Durin Water Works and Durin Bazaar experienced heavy downpour over the past few days with above average rainfall.
Hence, it reminded residents especially those staying along riverbanks to be cautious and take precautionary steps during this rainy season. — DayakDaily
